Following their standout achievement in the recently ended FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup India, Nigeria’s Flamingoes received monetary prizes from Lagos State FA Chairman, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi.
Nigeria upset the bookies by defeating Germany in the losers’ final, which was held on Sunday in Mumbai, and earning bronze in the competition.
The Flamingoes received a financial incentive of one million naira from the football administrator on Monday.
The Nigeria U17 Women’s team bounced back after losing the first group game to earn two straight victories in the group stage before defeating the United States in the quarterfinal in penalty shootouts.
They suffered a similar defeat to Colombia in the semifinals, and after defeating Germany 3-2, they were forced to accept a bronze medal.
