Aiteo Cup final: Sponsors hail Bayelsa United, Queens

The Federation Cup sponsors, Aiteo Group have hailed Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens for producing sweet football and emerging victorious at the just concluded Aiteo Cup finals on Sunday.

The Group further expressed their satisfaction at the successes recorded so far since its foray into football sponsorship aimed at developing football in Nigeria.

According to the Group Head, Strategic Communications, Media & Events, Ndiana-Abasi Matthew, in a chat after the finals of the 2021 Aiteo Cup in Benin City said sponsoring the FA Cup was part of the strategy to develop grassroots football.

“It was a wonderful event and we at Aiteo Group look back at our decision to go into sport as a CSR. In 2018, Aiteo signed a 5-year agreement that worth about 2.9bn with NFF and it is the most lucrative deal ever.

“You are all witnesses to when the sports industry had decayed to a point where coaches were being owed and we were to step in and settle all the backlogs of salaries owed coaches.

“Remember also, we were not performing well in qualifiers but under our partnership, the Nigeria team was the first to qualify for the world cup.

“We didn’t just focus on the national team and part of our strategy is to develop grassroots football. We need to get back to the basics to discover new talents. Look at the young Bayelsa United players, a second division team beat Rangers, Rivers United and Nasarawa United, the second strongest team in the league.

“They were tireless and that indefatigable spirit is what Aiteo has. It is a new day for Nigerian football where the Bayelsa teams will be on the continent. It was a wonderful event and we at Aiteo Group look back at our decision to go into sport as a CSR with pride,” he said.

He further said their N2.5bn sponsorship with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has helped improve its marketing visibility.

“Under our partnership, NFF’s marketing visibility increased. We saw Nike increased the money they put down on the country. Before Nike won’t market Nigeria, they will just give jerseys but went through the processes and marketed our jersey and we became the best jersey brand in the whole world and that’s because Aiteo came behind the NFF to support them.

“We didn’t look at what other companies who will go and sponsor Manchester United. Meanwhile, we will buy the drink here but it is Manchester United that is getting the money.

He further however assured that the prize money won by clubs will not be delayed like in the past
