A new Aiteo Cup champion will emerge this season as cup holders, Bayelsa United have been knocked out of the competition by Army side Green Beret of Zaria 5-4 on penalties after regulation time ended 0-0 in round 32 of the 2022 Aiteo Cup competition.

In the same vein, Six-time champions, Enugu Rangers have been dumped out of the Aiteo Cup competition as Heartland FC defeated them 8-7 on penalties after the regulation time ended 1-1.

The Imo based club which was also relegated to the second tier finally took their pound of flesh after losing back-to-back to Rangers last season in the Nigeria Professional Football League in the famed Oriental derby.

Also, newly relegated side, Kano Pillars defeated Zamfara United 5-0 as results from other centers saw Bendel Insurance defeating Ottasolo 4-3 on penalties after the regulation time ended 1-1 while Niger Tornadoes are through to the Aiteo Cup round of 16 after edging Enyimba Int’l via penalty shoot outs after a goalless regulation time

Katsina United also redeemed their image with a 3-1 victory over Cynosure FC while Elkanemi Warriors defeated Fulfill FC 1-0.

In the same vein, DMD FC moved to the next round after defeating Housing Cooperation 4-2 on penalties while Nasarawa United battled to a 11-10 victory on penalties to Sokoto United.

A Samuel Amadi hattrick was all that was needed to end Remo Stars campaign while Kogi United won 5-4 on penalties after they were held 0-0 by Kanta United. ‘

Sunshine Stars shone brightly over Calabar Rovers with an emphatic 5-1 victory while Wikki Tourists lost 3-4 on penalties after the normal time ended 1-1

Akure City Academy defeated Bendel insurance Feeders 2-1 just as Lobi Stars clinically defeated Doma 3-0.

Ahead of the Round of 16 scheduled for August 7, Green Beret will tackle Tornadoes while Lobi Stars will take on Akure Academy. It will be Heartland versus Dakkada while Sunshine Stars will battle Katsina United.

Akure Housing will be up against Kano Pillars while El-Kanemi Warriors slug it out with Wikki Tourists. Bendel Insurance will face off against Nasarawa United while Akwa United take to the field against Kogi United.

Meanwhile, the women’s Round of 16 matches will take place on Thursday evening.
