Italian intermediary Roberto Calenda has sent a message to Serie A referees to better protect his client Victor Osimhen.
The Nigeria national teamer was targeted by the Roma players in Napoli’s recent 2-1 win at the Diego Maradona Stadium and played some part of the game with his wrist bandaged after a heavy challenge from Chris Smalling.
Osimhen has missed six games through injury this term and last season spent two months on the sidelines after fracturing his cheekbone – an injury that saw him miss the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the rough treatment he received at the hands of the Roma stars, the 24-year-old won only two fouls over the course of the 75 minutes he spent on the pitch, and was criticized post-match by manager Jose Mourinho for simulation.
Osimhen’s agent, Calenda praised the striker for his brilliant performance against the capital outfit but urged referees to offer him more protection.
