AFN suspends annual congress

AFN constitutes electoral, appeal committees

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has constituted electoral and appeals committees ahead of its election on June 14 after the extraordinary committee of the AFN held virtually on Wednesday.

The electoral committee has Jambright Sumanu as its chairman, while AFN Director-General, Siminialayi Pepple, will act as the secretary.

Other members of the committee are Mohammed Aliyu, vice chairman; Alozie Emmanuel and C.J Nwogu.

The appeals committee has Omoyeni Olumudi as chairman, while other members are Eche Ezibe and Goodluck Akpodeh.

The congress agreed to use amended 2017 AFN Constitution for the election which will be held in Kebbi State and gave the committees one week to come up with modalities for the election. The congress had 26 states in attendance.

The AFN had been in crisis for over one year, with a section loyal to its President, Ibrahim Gusau, while another is loyal to the Vice President, Olamide George, who has the backing of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

After meeting with both camps, World Athletics and Confederation of African Athletics, mandated the Gusau-led board to conduct elections not later than June 14.
