The reinstated Technical Director, Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Sunday Adeleye has blamed the Minister of Youth and Sports Development of fuelling the crisis in the federation, the sportsbay.com reports.
In a chat with the Kogi-born administrator, the minister does not want to succeed if he decides to appeal the court judgment.
It will be recalled that Federal High Court has affirmed that Hon. Engr. Ibrahim Shehu-Gusau remains the president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) while sacking the board led by Hon Olamide George.
In his ruling on Wednesday, July 1, Hon. Justice A. I. Chikere ruled that only the President of the Federation had the powers to call a Congress and appoint a Technical Director.
The court further nullified the purported suspension and subsequent impeachment of Hon. Gusau as well as all other actions and resolutions taken by the Hon. Olamide George’s led AFN.
The court also reinstated Sunday Adeleye as the Technical Director while declaring the purported appointment of Hon. Olamide George as Acting President of the AFN is a nullity and went ahead to set it aside.
In the same vein, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has indicated its desire to appeal the decision.
According to a statement from the ministry’s legal department and signed by the director, Danjuma Muhammad, said “the judgment is a declaratory Judgment and the Ministry has a right of appeal within 90 days.”
Danjuma said the Judgment demonstrates Gusau’s declaration of autonomy of AFN, independent of Government is a non-issue.
“This civil matter has nothing to do with all the criminal allegations against Gusau before the various investigating agencies.
“The Ministry will explore its rights of appeal within the statutory period allowed for appeal while both parties will maintain status quo Ante,” the statement said.
“The ministry can appeal the case if they want. For them to say they want to appeal the judgment shows that they are the ones fueling the crisis. We thought the minister will hide under the judgment and call of us together, Gusau and George and ask we obey the courts. The minister does not want to succeed if he toes this path.
“Olamide George is not allowed to call for congress because he was not elected. We have been saying this for a long time,” he said.
