Kaiserslautern’s new signing, Afeez Aremu has revealed that a local balm, Aboniki made him perform better on the pitch.
Aremu who made this known in an interview with Punch newspaper said it was his dream to play for the big teams in Europe and also feature in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League but since there were no concrete offers from those teams, I decided to move to German second-tier outfit Kaiserslautern where he could also make an impact.
Speaking further, he said he found his new abode very cold and he had to seek advice from a senior colleague who gave him a valuable advice.
“After serious deliberations with my agent, I called a senior colleague (Sylvester Igbonu) to ask for his advice because he played in one of the coldest regions in Russia.
“He laughed at me when I told him and I was angry because my career in Norway was on the line and I didn’t want to go back to Nigeria.
“He then suggested that I buy a bigger football boot that had some space around my toes as that would make me run better and also get balm or ‘Aboniki’ to rub on my body each time I get on the pitch,”he said.
He also noted that he had not experienced any form of racism in Europe as at the moment.
“At the moment here, I have not been racially abused. I also don’t go to where I’m not welcome. I always stay indoors watch YouTube, Netflix or just take a walk around my house,” he stated.
Afeez Aremu’s entry into FC Kaiserslautern’s squad places him in the company of esteemed Nigerian players like Taribo West and Karibe Ojigwe, who have proudly donned the club’s colors.
As he joins this prestigious lineage, Aremu is poised to contribute his unique style of play and zeal to the pursuit of the club’s promotion bid.
