On Friday, July 15, 2022, more than 500 golfers will compete in the Captain’s Inagural Tournament, bringing the lush green course of the IBB International golf and Country Club, Abuja, back to life (Harmony Cup).

Andrew Yakubu, chairman of the Captain’s Inaugural committee, said the tournament is open to everyone and hopes to unearth fresh talents during a press conference to announce the two-day competition.

“Traditionally when a new captain comes in, he has two major events in the middle of so many other activities he drives during the year. He starts his tenure with the Captain’s Cup. The captain tagged this tournament Harmony Cup to kickstart his activities.

“The game of golf is not necessary an elitist game and that is why when we have tournaments, we look for sponsors. The whole idea is to remove this barrier. This tournament tries to open up a level playing field for participants. You don’t have to be rich to play this game. We have discovered talents who couldn’t afford things and we sponsored them and they are making waves across the world. We hope to discover new talents during the two-day tournament.

“We have over 17 sponsors for the tournament and it is open to every golfer who may not be members of the IBB club. We are expecting captains and lady captains from golf clubs around the country,” he said.

The new captain, Micheal Onoja Ekoja who is the 25th captain of the club was elected in April this year after its Annual General Meeting.
