NPFL: 3SC secure first league win as Gombe Utd dim Lobi Stars

Shooting Stars of Ibadan (3SC) have earned their first win of the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League season following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Katsina United.

In the 62nd minute, Wasiu Alalade scored what happened to be the only goal of the game as 3SC earned all three points at the Lekan Salami stadium.

The coach Edith Agoye led technical crew paraded a strong line up with Okanlawon Olaide in goal, ably covered by the quartet of skipper Omololu Waheed, Isiaka Mutiu, Ghali Falke and Amodu Nurudeen.

Uko Aniete, Akilu Mohammed and Olatunji Damilare took charge in the middle, leaving Kolawole Daniel, Malomo Taofeek and Olafinihan Gafar upfront.

The Ibadan soccer lords completely dominated proceedings for the largest part of the first 45 minutes but poor marksmanship was their greatest undoing, as the first half ended scoreless.

The homers, who were barely threatened by the visitors, whose attack, led by ex-Shooting Stars’ forward, Ahmed Rasheed, was well handled by the 3SC backline, pressed further as the second half got underway.

The introduction of Ebenezer Odeyemi and Wasiu Alalade for the duo of Kola Daniel and Olatunji Damilare, added more bite into the Warriors’ attack and this paid off in the 62nd minutes when Alalade broke the deadlock with his very first touch of the ball.

Katsina United, who had before the goal, packed more men in the defense, tried to come back into the game by pushing forward, but goalkeeper Okanlawon and the 3SC defense stood their ground till the end of the match, thus ensuring that Shooting Stars got their first maximum points of the season.

3SC, who now have five points from four matches, will next travel to Aba, for a matchday five face off against Enyimba FC of Aba, next Sunday.

Abia Warriors started their game against Kwara United in the best possible way as Godwin Obaje opened the scoring in the very first minute of the game but were unable to build on the early lead.

Kwara United pressed on and their efforts were duly rewarded through Ademola Adebambo who scored in the 85th minute as the game ended 1-1.

Former champions, Lobi Stars have dropped to 13th position after losing 3-0 away to Gombe United who were also securing their own first win of the season.

Yusuf Abdulazeez scored the first goal in the 52nd minute after latching onto a rebound to score from Ibrahim Jimoh’s corner kick.

Six minutes later, Endurance Ebedebiri headed into his own net from Ismail Bello’s well-taken free kick to extend Gombe lead.

Abdulazeez completed the rout as he scored his brace in the 74th minute to condemn Lobi to their first loss of the season.

Following the conclusion of matchday 4, Remo Stars top the table with 8 points while Rivers United are second also with 8 points. Enugu Rangers are second with 7 points.

Heartland, Katsina United, MFM FC and Shooting Stars occupy the 17th, 18th , 19th and 20th position respectively on the table.
