Fritz Sdunek, longtime Klitschko coach, dies at 67

A German boxing official says that Fritz Sdunek, who coached Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko among other champions, has died. He was 67.

News agency dpa reported that the head of the Federation of German Professional Boxers, Thomas Puetz, said Sdunek died on Monday following a heart attack.

Sdunek coached Vitali Klitschko to a string of heavyweight titles. He also trained middleweight champion Felix Sturm and light-heavyweight champion Dariusz Michalczewski. As a trainer in East Germany, he coached Andreas Zuelow, who won Olympic gold in 1988.

Sturm wrote on Twitter: “Words cannot express the pain…Fritz, I’ll never forget you.”

Puetz said that “the boxing world has lost a great personality.”
