Africa’s most successful female table tennis player, Funke Oshonaike has said she is not looking for a boyfriend or a husband, at least for the moment, the sportsbay.com reports.

She made this clarification on her Facebook page, saying she was warned against putting up an earlier post on the social media.

“I come in peace oooo. I think some people misunderstood my last post on “#SoulMate“!!! I’m neither looking for a boyfriend nor husband ooo!! The messages and phone calls no be small things ooo!!

“Though my best friend #Oloromi warned me but my stubborn head didn’t listen!! I hate to say that he’s right.Thank you all for loving. But Funke is seriously in love with her new found love, i.e me , myself and I.and that’s why she’s glowing. She’s not ready to share it with anybody for now until further notice,” she wrote.

It will be recalled that she once decried the increasing rate at which she gets marriage proposals from married men.

Oshonaike said she lost confidence in marriage after her previous relationships collapsed.

In one of her failed relationships, the sportswoman said she caught her boyfriend in bed with another girl, a day before her trip to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, despite carrying a pregnancy.

Recently, her marriage with Kevin Irabor, who allegedly married another woman despite still being married to the Olympian, broke down after two boys.

The 44-year-old lamented “the sadness infidelity and unfaithfulness” caused her depression.

She said, “I went through depression. I was keeping lots of things to myself, not wanting people to know about me! So, I will never do to a woman like me what gave me sadness and what I ran away from.

“If your wife can stand you with committing adultery and cheating on her, that’s her own choice! I can’t stand a man that cheats again, never! I will continue to be alone than stand a man that cheats, lie and abusive!

I’ve been going through this since I was a teenager and I’m sick and tired of begging married men to please leave me alone! I don’t want any gifts or anything from you guys. Give those gifts to your wives! If you’re having problem with your wife, I’m not your option because I’m a woman like your wife!”

She was one of the youngest members of the Nigerian team at the All African Games in Cairo in 1991.

But as Funke Oshonaike cemented her place in the national team, debuting at the Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996, she faced personal struggles.

“I was physically, sexually, emotionally and mentally abused. This man beat me for more than three years and I remember always going to UNILAG [University of Lagos] with a battered face but I still never gave up on TT, men or life.”
