Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, has indicated his desire to play in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) before he hangs his boots.
Onazi, who came from the youth ranks of El Kanemi Warriors and My People FC, never had the opportunity to play in the NPFL before being shipped out to Lazio in Serie A.
The Denizlispor midfielder was frank with his assessment of the domestic league, saying the football authorities needed to do more to make the league attractive to players outside the country.
“There is the possibility because right now the NFF are trying their best and they can do better. There are other African leagues that are even doing more,” Onazi said on Smooth FM Lagos.
“It’s not a bad option, one can come back home and do something. I don’t mind, I think I am someone who can do that.”
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner also said he was back to full fitness after missing the major part of the league through injuries, expressing willingness to return to the national team.
He said, “This is my country, I cannot say no when my country calls me to come and play. I’m back and fit and ready to play any time I’m called upon.”
