The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), FCT chapter has urged sports administrators to devise means of keeping tabs on sports men and women around following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the sportsbay reports.
According to the Chairman of the association Comrade Ndubueze Chidoka, in a statement also called on sports journalist to display high level of compliance with the ‘stay at home’ order as part of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
Chidoka commended sports writers, and indeed other stakeholders for embracing early preventive measures which led to postponement of various sporting competitions in the country.
Comrade Chidoka recalled that till date, no Covid-19 positive case in Nigeria has been traceable to any sporting outing, a development he said stakeholders must work hard to sustain.
The SWAN leader in FCT further said that as part of agenda setting role of the media, sports journalists are expected to closely monitor situation at this time in a bid to enlighten athletes and other stakeholders at all times.
He also expressed optimism that the current unusual period would soon be over so that normal sporting activities would commence both in the country and the world at large.
“Being alive is the most important aspect of living. However, all hands must be on deck to ensure that no one is left behind at this critical time,” he added.
