Change is inevitable they say, but stability and continuity are very important in every sphere of life – except things go other ways.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and his Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr, have since been into loggerhead over issues relating to breaches of contract, contract renewal, unpaid wages, team selections, among others.
In November 2019, the Nigeria Football Federation says it has asked Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Mr Gernot Rohr to “explain reasons behind several breaches of the contract that he signed with the body, which forbids him to divulge to the public/media information on some aspects of the contract” the NFF said in a statement on their website.
The query came after he recently granted an interview with the media, where Rohr complained about the delay in the talks of his contract extension and outstanding wages.
NFF’s Technical Director, Bitrus Bewarang is also quoted on the federation’s website to have said:
“ In as much as we appreciate the work that Mr Rohr has been doing with the Super Eagles in the past 40 months, his recent penchant for breaching provisions of the contract he signed with the NFF and the Code of Conduct for coaches is not good for the relationship,” he said.
“ The NFF wishes that Mr Rohr continues in the job because of the team he is building for Nigeria which looks promising and has earned some good results since he took charge, but he cannot continue to nonchalantly cause the NFF as a body, and Nigeria as a nation, reputational damage through his utterances and actions” he concluded.
Recently, reports of relationship breakdown between the Super Eagles head coach – Gernot Rohr and his employee suffice the media space. In which some believe the time has come for both parties to part ways. But others want the German tactician to continue at the realm of affairs of the National team side. Truth be told, the team has witness stability and some consistency over his stay of executions.
Assembling one of the youngest team players in the world with an average age of 24.1 – a statistics only bettered by Mexico (23.5) looks appealing for prospects. Although we’ve not yet reached what we ought to be, the future looks promising.
The German tactician was appointed in 2016 on a three-year contract – which has seen him helped the three-time African champions qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and also led them to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The former Burkina Faso and Gabon coach have since been free to negotiate a new contract with another from January 1 as his contract with the NFF set to end in June and could leave if another team side requires his services. But this is not the right time to say goodbye to the 66-years old gaffer amid draws for the continental and World Cup qualifiers.
Since taking over the job as Super Eagles coach in August 2016, Rohr has been called out several times for ignoring the nation’s league – Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). This has resulted in the Glasshouse superpowers to include a clause in his new contract that will compel the former Bordeaux manager to domesticate in the country – Nigeria.
Recently, a wave of hope was disclosed by the Media Officer of the Super Eagles – Toyin Ibitoye quoted to have said on a radio program:
“……Rohr is coming back. The World Cup qualifiers will start in March so we have to be united, focused; ensure that we have no distractions because we have to approach the World Cup qualifiers with all the seriousness that it deserves.
“We expect Rohr to come to back to Nigeria say in two weeks all things being equal. He will be meeting with the Nigeria Football Federation and of course, you know that in the third week of January the draws for the second round of qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.
“There are plans for him to be at the draws in Egypt. That’s the next agenda and as I said, March is not too far away.” Ibitoye Stated on Brila Fm.
Since it’s just a few months away to the qualifiers of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 FIFA World, all hands need to be on deck. As the millions football loving fans of the nation won’t fancy the idea of his National side being knock-off the opportunity to participate in the global stage.
