Tunisia and Cape Verde Battle to a Stalemate

Tunisia and Cape Verde played out a fairly entertaining draw in their opening match of the tournament, although both sides will feel slightly disappointed by the result.

The match got off to a frantic start after Cape Verde struck the post in the opening minute, and while Tunisia had the better of the first half, the chances all fell to their opponents, as the lively Kuca and Heldon also saw chances go wide.

Cape Verde almost had a first-half penalty too after Heldon was fouled, although the referee correctly judged the incident to have taken place outside the area.

The second half started much the same with TUnisia again almost falling behind as Ben Youssef was forced to clear off the line, despite having an even game in general play.

It soon looked as though their opponents would be left to curse their poor finishing, however, as a low ball into the penalty area found Ali Moncer to complete a smart close-range finish at the far post, and give Tunisia an ill-deserved lead.

Yet Cape Verde weren’t finished, and soon won a penalty through Heldon, which he smartly dispatched to level the scores late on. Tunisia almost scored instantly in a frantic finish, but Aymen Abdennour’s header was clawed away by Vozinha to keep the scores level.
