The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has maintained its position that Engineer Ibrahim Gusau remains suspended as president of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
In an interview with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Tunde Akpeji, stressed that the leadership of AFN under Mr Olamide George continues to pilot the affairs of the federation.
He said that “an Investigative Panel was set up by the AFN Board under the Acting President Olamide George and the outcome of the said panel has not been released. The Ministry is aware that Ibrahim Gusau was given ample opportunity to appear before this panel and clear all allegations against him.”
According to him, the Ministry is focused on preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and all other national and international sporting engagements of Nigeria towards ensuring successful outings.
It will be recalled that the AFN has been embroiled in leadership crisis since last year following allegations of corruption and sharp practices against Gusau by some members of the board.
Meanwhile, Gusau has filed a motion with the Federal High court with motion number M/4349/2020, filed with suit no CU/849/2020, restraining Prince Adisa A Beyiouku and Mr Olamide George from holding a scheduled board meeting.
“An order of interlucotory injunction restraining the 3rd and 4th defendants/respondents either by themselves, privies or agents from going ahead to hold the board meeting of Athletics Federation of Nigeria scheduled to hold on the 23rd of January, 2020 or holding any other board meeting of the AFN at any other time pending the determination of this suit,” the motion said.
