Onaara emerges NJCAA National Athlete of the Week


Onaara Obamuwagu has emerged the Women’s national athlete of the week in the The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) division.

Onaara participated in her first competition in the United States over at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas, where she won with a lifetime best of 13.20m to become the No. 2 performer on the all-time JUCO list and farthest jumper since 2002.

The current African U20 Triple Jump Champion, is the fifth female athlete from South Plains College to be named National Athlete of the Week during the Indoor Track & Field season and the first since February 5 of last year, when Gladys Jemaiyo earned the award.

The National Athletes award of the week was given to the best eight performers across all the divisions in the United State by the U.S.Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
