… I couldn’t turn down Wikki offer – Abd’allah
Former Enyimba head coach Usman Abd’allah has been appointed Wikki Tourist new manager after signing a five-month deal with the club.
The Bauchi based club on Monday sacked heir former head coach, Garba Ibrahim and other coaching staff according to an official statement from the club signed by the team media officer, Nasir Kobi.
Though the statemnt did not state the reason for the sack of the entire coaching crew but it may not be unconnected from their 1-2 home loss at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa stadium in Sunday in their match-day 14 tie against Sunshine Stars.
All the newly appointed coaches have resumed duties on Monday with immediate effect.
Wikki Tourists are in the 13th position with 16 points.
The club statement reads in part:
“A New Technical Adviser has been appointed for Wikki Tourists.
“He is Usman Abdullah Shariff,he replaces Garba Ibrahim who has been redeployed to the Bauchi State Sports Council.
“Others appointed are Haruna Abubakar new Goalkeepers Trainer and Dantani Yahaya as Trainor 2. Other Technical Crew members affected and also redeployed to the sports council are the Chief Coach Bashir Sale,and Wada Jibrin Trainor while Bala Mohammed the Goalkeepers Trainer being a contract staff with the club was disengaged.
All appointments are with immediate effect.
“The new Technical Adviser is expected to commence training with the team today 13/1/20 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium.”
The new coach after his appointment said he could not resist the offer and has the task to “stabilize” the team within five months.
“Although I was initially hoping to leave and be with the family but some deals are to good to walk away from.
“I also wanted to in the North and close to my family. Only two days of leaving Enyimba I was getting calls for a new offer and besides the financial aspect, the task of rebuilding a team in five months is challenging.”
“I don’t know the depth of the team yet, but I have also observed them from close quarters in the game against Sunshine Stars and I will also see the game against Adamawa United.
“The window is open and we would consider bringing in players to bolster the squad.”
Abd’Allah left his position as technical Adviser with Enyimba after almost two seasons. He joined midway through the 2017-18 season and won the league with the club last term.
Describing the time at the Aba based side, the Coach said it was a great learning curve.
“I am an ex Coach of Enyimba, the club of course has a huge reputation, I came with a new Idea and we had some success.
“I can’t dwell on the negatives during the period I was there, We had some good times.
“I want to thank the club and particularly the chairman. We had a good relationship and we also fought some times; situations that have also made me a better Manager.
He admits working to turn the fortunes of Wikki Tourists, the team currently 14th in the log, will be daunting.
“With Wikki Tourists, there’s a lot of work to do and we want to try and stabilize the team, until we do that we can’t decide on any other objective.”
