D’Tigress gets USA, host Serbia, Mozambique in tough Olympics qualifiers

African Champions D’Tigress will be facing a herculean task to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after they were grouped Serbia, USA as well as Mozambique in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (WOQT).

The draw for the qualifying tournament took place on Wednesday in a ceremony at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball, FIBA headquarters which had in attendance FIBA Secretary General, Mr. Andreas Zagklis, and over 40 representatives from the National Federations of participating teams and host countries.

It will be noted that D’Tigress reached the final FIBA WOQT after a successful campaign at the African WOQT held in Mozambique.

The four FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, taking place from February 6-9, 2020 will be played in Belgium, China, France and Serbia.

The top three teams from each of these tournaments will qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 champions USA and the hosts of the Olympic Games, Japan, will play in the qualification tournaments but will advance through to the Tokyo 2020 Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament regardless of their results.
