Jigawa Golden Stars stun Pillars, Enyimba lose to Sunshine


New boys, Jigawa Golden Stars have done the unthinkable by defeating former champions, Kano Pillars by a lone goal in Match Day 4 of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

The Jigawa based club who had prior to this game had failed to pick a single point ensured they got their first three points from Pillars with a Yusuf Muhammed’s seventh minute goal

The victory is also special as it is the first ever win for Jigawa GS over Pillars in the NPFL after four previous attempts and have now moved to 15th position while the latter is 18th on the table.

Similarly, Pillars remain the only team in the league yet to score a goal after three games as they have lost two and drew one.

In the same vein, Sunshine Stars of Akure also stunned Enyimba with another 1-0 victory.

Midfielder dynamo, Anthony Omaka powered a low drive into the bottom right, off the woodwork in the 10th minute to score the only goal of the game.

Sunshine Stars have won three of their last 8 matches in all competitions while Enyimba have now lost 3 of their last 8 matches as well.

In Markurdi, a 10-man Lobi Stars were in imperious form as they outclassed visiting Heartland 3-0.

Abdulwasiu Mahmud opened scoring in the 9th minute to begin the rout for a side who are yet to pick point away from home against the Makurdi side since 2011.

Sikiru Alimi doubled the lead in the 16th minute has now scored four goals in Lobi last five NPFL home matches. The rout was completed by John Lazarus in 29th minute to take the second spot behind Plateau united.

Other matches saw Akwa United failing to defeat visiting Katsina United as the game ended in a draw while Enugu Rangers tasted their second league defeat to Rivers United, losing 2-1.

In Nasarawa, the home side who are rooted at the bottom of the league played a 1-1 draw against former champions and league leaders Plateau United who have garnered 10 points from 4 games.

In Lagos, MFM were also held to a 1-1 draw by Warri Wolves while Wikki Tourists defeated Delta Force 3-1.

Meanwhile, later tomorrow, Adamawa Utd will welcome Abia Warriors just as Ifeanyi Ubah will be guests to Akwa Starlets.
