Rabat 2019: Nigeria win first medals in Morocco


Team Nigeria has won her first medals in the ongoing 12th All Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco.

Ruth Chinazum Nwosu has just clinched Nigeria’s 1st gold medal after defeating Morocco’s Oumaima El Bouchti in the women’s 49-53kg category in Taekwondo with a 26-22 victory.

Ruth had defeated Ethiopia’s Fikadu Tsebaot Gos in the semi-finals 14-10, Niger’s Balkissa Halidou in the quarter-finals, 23-9 enroute to the finals earlier on Wednesday.

In the same vein, Benjamin Okuomose (+87 kg) and Sunday Onofe (80-87kg) both secured Bronze medals in their respective categories in Taekwando

Meanwhile, Nigeria U20 Women national team on Wednesday picked the semifinals ticket after coming from behind to hold Cameroon to a 1-1 draw at the ongoing 2019 African Games in Morocco.

Nigeria came from behind to hold Cameroon to a 1-1 draw. It will be recalled the Falconets had defeated South Africa 3-0 in their first group B match last Saturday.

Winner between Cameroon and South Africa in Group B will join Nigeria in the semifinals.
