Otedola fulfills N9m AFCON per-goal pledge to Super Eagles

Business mogul, Femi Otedola on Tuesday fulfilled the $25,000 pledge he made to the Super Eagles during the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

It will be recalled that the oil magnate made a promise to the team that they will get $25,000 (N9 million) for every goal they score in the semi-final of the 2019 AFCON.

Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote had also promised the team $50,000 (N18 million) for every goal they scored in the semi-finals as well.

This was revealed on the verified Twitter handle of the Nigeria Football Federation @thenff on Tuesday.

According to the tweet, “Business mogul Femi Otedola has fulfilled his pledge of $25,000 to the @NGSuperEagles for their one goal against Algeria in AFCON 2019 semifinal. Seen here on Tuesday with defender @omeruo22  (r),Team Administrator Enebi Achor (second l) and Equipment Manager Chidi Ngoka (l).”

The Super Eagles lost the semi-final clash to eventual winners, Algeria by 2-1.

Defender, William Troost Ekong scored an early own goal but Odion Ighalo scored levelled scoring before Riyad Mahrez broke Nigerians heart with a last minute free-kick.

Nigeria eventually won the third-place match against Tunisia to cart home the bronze medal.
