Tennis stars storm Abuja for CBN tourney

The city of Abuja is buzzing with the presence of tennis stars across the nation as the Central Bank of Nigeria Senior Tennis tournament hits high crescendo.

The 41st edition served-off on Thursday June 20, 2019 and will continue till Saturday June 29, 2019 at the Package ‘B’ of the MKO Abiola National Stadium Complex, Abuja

In a statement, the Director, Corporate Communications Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, said the CBN Senior Tennis fiesta makes a return to the newly named Moshood Abiola Stadium after the success stories of the 40th edition anniversary held in 2018 edition.

He added that this year’s championship is taking place in four categories, Men singles, women singles, men doubles and women doubles plus the men’s and women’s singles categories of the wheel chair events.

The men’s and women’s singles categories will be played in a round of 64 draw chat where the winners will smile home with the sum of N.7m each which is the star prize in addition to the CBN giant trophy that goes with it., while runners-up in both categories get N.5m each. The doubles events will be drawn in a round of 32 chat.

He further stated that the main objective of the annual CBN senior Tennis hard Court tournament was to discover talents that could represent Nigeria in international competitions while reiterating CBN commitment to continue to invest in the development of Nigeria youths.
