Sports journalists were barred from covering the Bayelsa State FA elections which took place on Monday at the Latik Hotels located at INEC Road.

It was reported that journalists were denied access by security personnel on the instructions of the FA officials.

Chairman of the State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Mr. Datonye Alambo later arrived the venue and sought audience with the organisers .

The State SWAN Chairman then expressed displeasure over the development.

The Sports Journalists at the event later held a brief meeting and resolved to give a black out henceforth to all FA activities and programs in the State including the ongoing State League.

The State SWAN Chairman thereafter met some officials of the Electoral Committee and the Secretary of the State FA, Mr. Diseye Nwankwe to communicate the resolution and the grievances of the journalists.

Mr. Nwankwe explained that the practice was for journalists to cover the Congress and not the election.

Some journalists were however quick to remind him that colleagues from TVC were allowed in the hall to cover the election while others were denied.

Mr. Nwankwe however said they had instructions to have the election video recorded by at least a medium, hence the presence of the TVC crew.

He however apologized to the Sports Journalists and promised that the State FA would meet with the group to iron out the differences.

Earlier, an aspirant for the Chairmanship position, Stadium Construction expert, Mr. Ebi Egbe popularly called ‘Moni Love’ had expressed dissatisfaction with the electoral process, accusing the incumbent, Barr. Porbeni Ogoun and other State FA officials of perfecting strategies to hold onto power at all costs.
