Super 6 match preview: Pillars battle Enyimba as Lobi seek another win

| |

The MatchDay 2 of Nigeria Professional Football League playoffs, known as Super Six continues today at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

Just as Tuesday, three matches will be played one after the other.

The first match is Akwa United against IfeanyiUbah FC, to be followed by Enugu Rangers versus Lobi Stars. The last match will be Kano Pillars against Enyimba.

Akwa United vs IfeanyiUbah

On Tuesday, both sides dropped points and will be looking to secure all three points against each other when they meet today.

Akwa United drew 2-2 with Kano Pillars while IfeanyiUbah lost 3-1 to Kano Pillars.

Having met in the abridged league earlier in the season, with both sides securing a victory each, they are both poised for victory.

The Anambra Warriors top striker, Mfon Udoh who missed being crowned as the NPFL’s top scorer due to disciplinary issues may well be the ‘game changer’.

Enugu Rangers vs Lobi Stars

Rangers pipped Lobi to win Group A of the league by 5 points and the defending champions will be out to make another bold statement that their qualification to last season’s continental football was not a fluke.

Rangers lost to Enyimba by a lone goal and will be desirous to avoid another defeat to Lobi who currently top the table.

In the just concluded league, the Flying Antelopes won and drew a game with the Benue based club and that could boost their confidence going into the game.

Lobi’s Samad Kadiri who has scored two goals so far may increase his goal tally today but Nana Bonsu will be expected to live up to billing as the most outstanding goalkeeper in the 2018/19 CAF Confederation.

Kano Pillars vs Enyimba

This is a clash of the former champions that will change the narratives of the playoffs depending on who wins the match.

Pillars dropped points against Akwa United while Enyimba labored to secure a 1-0 victory over Rangers.

The Masu Gida will have huge support from northerners living in Lagos and pile up pressure on one of their major rivals.

Enyimba who are currently second on the playoff table will seek to avoid a defeat to Kano. In recent matches between them, the Aba Warriors have the upper hand and will look to extend the record.

Meanwhile, Rabiu Ali is expected to pull the strings for the Kano based club.
