The road has come to an end for Nigeria Professional League sides, Remo Stars and Yobe Stars as they have been relegated from top flight football on Thursday.
At the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu, the home side who had been battling relegation failed once again following a 0-0 draw against former champions, Enyimba during MatchDay 20 of the abridged league, ending their top flight football winning 4 matches, drawing 7 and losing 9.
The Sky Blues Stars have now set an unwanted record for themselves as they have failed to score a goal against Enyimba in four matches now.
They are 12th on the Group A table with 19 points after 20 games. Bendel Insurance, Niger Tornadoes and Kwara United are also battling to escape relegation in the same group.
In the same vein, Yobe Stars have also been shown the way out of the league following a 1-0 loss to Kano Pillars at home. Adamu
The away side from the blast of the whistle showed determination to win the game and were duly rewarded by the Adamu Hassan who scored the only goal of the game in the 10th minute.
Yobe Stars nevertheless had no realistic chance of escaping relegation even with a win as they are on 15 points, winning 4 games, drawing 3 games and losing 13 games to be rooted at the bottom of the table.
Meanwhile, Akwa United despite a 2-1 loss to Delta Force in a late kick off have qualified for the Super Six.
The Uyo based club popularly known as Promise Keepers are topping the Group B with 37 points after 20 games.
Delta Force led through Christian Ekong’s goal following an assist by Anayo Iwuala in the 14th minute.
At the restart of the second half, Ekong was brought down in the box, winning a penalty for his side. He however missed the kick but his blushes were spared by Anayo Iwuala who followed up on the rebound to give a 2-goal advantage in the 49th minute.
In the 71st minute, Mfon Udoh scored from the spot for Akwa United after Godspower Aniefiok was tripped in the box.
Meanwhile, other games played saw Rivers United playing a 1-1 draw with Lobi Stars as Katsina United pummeled Sunshine Stars by 3 goals to 1.
Also Wikki Tourist defeated Kwara United 2-1 as Go Round also played 1-1 draw with Plateau United.
Ifeanyi Ubah were defeated at home 2-1 by Heartland as Nasarawa United showed superiority over Gombe United in 2-1 victory.
