… Kwara lose first home match
Enugu Rangers have won their first away match this season after defeating Kwara United 2-1 in the rescheduled Match Day 6 of the abridged Nigeria Professional Football League.
Both sides at the early stages of the game made attempts to score early but the 7-times Nigerian champions were able to draw the first blood in the 25th minute when Ifeanyi George directed the ball past Kwara GK Oremade Olawale at the far post following a Chiamaka Madu corner kick.
Matters went from bad to worse for the hosts when Rangers’ Sunday Akinmoladun made meal of a pass and Godwin Aguda picked his pocket to score and give his side a two-goal cushion going into the second half.
In a bid to turn the game on at the restart of the second half, Kwara United Peter Momoh and Tijjani Adamu replaced Ernest Omodiaba and Rasaq Alamoyo which eventually paid off.
In the 65th minute, the home side got lifeline as Ebenezer Odeyemi capitalized on a defensive error to head home which seemed to spur on the players to force another goal.
Coach Ogunbote was forced to make some tactical and defensive changes to thwart their hosts efforts to equalize.
With this result, Rangers have overtaken MFM to top Group A with 24 points after playing 11 games while Kwara who have now lost their first home game this season remain rooted on 8th position with 18 points from 14 games payed so far.
