Lobi Stars squeeze past Sunshine Stars

Lobi Stars of Makurdi have defeated visiting Sunshine Stars of Akure by a lone goal in MatchDay 14 of the abridged Nigeria Professional Football League on Monday.

From the blast of the whistle, the two-time Nigeria champions took the game to their visitors with Alimi Sikiru and Samada Kadiri combining well to tear open the away side defense.

Sunshine’s Ayo Ojo however prevented his team from going down to early in the games with some incredible saves.

However, the defense line of the Akure-based club was breached in the 42nd minute when the tormentor-in-chief, Alimi scored following an assist from Samad.

At the restart of the second half, Sunshine Stars improved their game play, creating some chances to snatch a point, but for Lobi keeper, John Lawrence who had to be at his best as well to help his team to clinch all three points.

Following this victory, Lobi  have moved to the fourth position with 20 games on Group A with two outstanding games while Sunshine Stars dropped further into relegation, sitting uncomfortably on 10th position with 16 points from 13 games played.
