Etebo’s goal ends Stoke City’s barren spell

Super Eagles midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo spectacular 25-yard strike in the 14th minute helped to notch Stoke’s first goal in almost 390 minutes of football as they claimed a hard fought 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon.

Having excelled in his side’s goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend, the Nigerian started his 23rd league game of the season as Nathan Jones Stoke City went in search of their first win in since early March.

It took the Nigerian just 14 minutes to break the deadlock when he hit a ferocious strike to end Stoke City’s six hours without a goal, much to the jubilation of the 1,900 fans who made the trip.

Etebo almost made it 2-0 moments later when he combined again with Tom Ince but his effort went just wide much to the relief of the home fans.

Borjan Krkic then continued Stoke City’s wastefulness from the spot kick when he missed from twelve yards just after the half-hour mark as the visitors held on for a precious away win at the blast of the final whistle.

The goal was Etebo’s second of the season, whilst the win stretches Stoke City’s unbeaten run to nine games as they now move up to 14th on the log with 51 points from 40 games.
