All seems not to be well with the second-tier Nigeria football league, the Nigeria National League (NNL) as the league body has postponed the date for 2019 NNL draws slated to be held on Monday 25th March 2019 in Abuja.
According to the Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria National League (NNL), Lawrence Katken while speaking in Abuja confirmed that the date for the draws has been shifted to a yet to be fixed date.
In his words: “The draws for the 2019 NNL season will no longer hold 9n Monday (25th March 2019) but we will call all the stakeholders on our decision on the date for the draws.”
Nigeria National League held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Wednesday in Abuja on the same date the draws for the 42 NNL teams supposed to be held.
According to the management of the league, the date for the draws was postponed because some teams are yet to complete their registration for the 2019 NNL season. They added that the league cannot commence without all participating teams completing their registration.
In the same vein, the chairman, Nigeria National League, Ofor Okenwa cited failure by the teams to complete their registrations before Wednesday 20th March 2019, the league body Annual General Meeting date as the major reason why the draws were shifted.
According to him, without proper registration of clubs, it will be difficult to commence the 2019 NNL league across the country.
Ofor, though revealed that inability if clubs to complete their registration is one of the reasons but there are other factors that also contributed to the shifting of the draw date.
“Failure of clubs to complete their registration for the 2019 NNL season is a major reason why we shifted the draws date to Monday.”
“Without complete registrations of players movements from one club to another that needed to be cleared before they will be eligible to play for their newly chosen teams, the draws cannot hold,” he added.
“Although, there are other reasons why we shifted the date to Monday 25th March but i believe it will be sorted before the set date,” he concluded.
