Rangers International FC on Thursday put behind their continental woes to defeat Sunshine Stars of Akure by a lone goal in a rescheduled Match Day 3 of the Nigeria Professional Football League
The 7 times league champions started the game brightly, creating goal scoring opportunities, thus mounting huge pressure on the Akure based club.
The wood work and the Sunshine goal keeper Ayo Ojo prevented the home side from scoring.
However, the pressure yielded positive results in the 26th minute when Sunshine’s Gabriel Olalekan turned Ajani Ibrahim’s delivery into his own net.
Rangers continued to pile pressure after the goal but for Ojo who continued to deny the home side from scoring more goals.
At the restart of the second half, the away side turned on the heat on their hosts but failed to maximally utilize the few scoring chances that came their way.
With this victory, Rangers move up to 7th position on 12 points after five games while Sunshine Stars dropped down to 5th position on 13 points after 10 games played.
