Rejuvenated Akwa United stun Heartland as MFM stun Insurance


The abridged Nigeria Professional Football League on Sunday resumed actions after the conclusion of the General Elections.

The Match Day 11 of the league threw up interesting scores in various stadia across the nation.

At the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina United dominated visiting Kwara United with a 1-0 victory scored by Martins Usule in the 13th minute.

The early goal seemed to spur the away side as they dominated play but were unable to find that breakthrough despite the numerical advantage.

Kwara United’s goalkeeper Abdulateef Ishola saved a penalty kick in the 44th minute, denying Katsina Utd the chance of doubling their lead.

It was an entertaining match at the Akure Township Stadium as the game between Sunshine Stars and Enyimba FC ended in a goalless draw.

Both teams had moments to open scoring but missed their chances.

It will be noted that the Aba Warriors now hold the longest clean sheet in the division without conceding in their last 5 matches.

In Nnewi, IfeanyiUbah defeated former champions, Kano Pillars by a lone victory.

It was an eventful match as both teams matched each other in all departments.

The FCIU International Stadium Ozubulu erupted into ecstasy in the 66th minute when Uche Ihuarulam broke the deadlock after scoring for a rebound.

Philip Auta was the star of the match when Yobe Deserts defeated Go Round by two goals.

In the 8th minute, Philip put the home side ahead from the spot after Jacob Jonathan was brought down in the box by Odinaka.

He scored his second goal of the day in the 57th minute following an assist from Jacob Jonathan.

Rejuvenated Akwa United stunned their hosts, Heartland FC at the Okigwe Township Stadium with a 2-1 victory.

Ndifreke Effiong puts the visiting team ahead after Mfon Udoh’s good work to set him up in the 4th minute.

At the 57th minute, Chidiebere Ajoku put Heartland back in the game to increase the tempo of the game.

However, at the 72th minute, Mfon Udoh secured all three points for the away side with a curling shot.

Results from other stadiums saw El-Kanemi Warriors playing a goalless draw Gombe United just as MFM defeated Bendel Insurance by two goals. Abia Warriors shared the spoils of war with Plateau United as the game ended 1-1.

In other matches, Wikki Tourist defeated Rivers United by two goals just as Kada City overcame Nasarawa United by 2-1 in a northern derby.
