Lobi bow out of CAF Champions League with victory

Lobi Stars ended their campaign in the CAF Champions League on a winning note yesterday evening as they recorded a 2-0 win over ASEC Mimosas in their final group game at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

It will be recalled that the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) representatives suffered a heavy 3-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in their fifth group game played in South Africa.

The loss had dented their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages but had shown the desire to exit the tournament with their heads high prior to this game.

Sikiru Alimi scored both goals for Lobi Stars in the 3rd and 39th minute and held their ground against the visiting team.

ASEC stood a chance to advance to the next round but were unable to overturn the deficit.

With Saturday’s win, Lobi Stars ended their campaign as the third-placed team in Group B with seven points, ASEC on their part finished bottom also with seven points after six games.
