The National Sports Festival 2020 hosts, Edo State have shown complete preparedness to host the biennial national games.
The Chief Host, Gov. Godwin Obaseki while on an inspection tour said his government will explore the possibility of preparing more sports centres across the state as venues for the NSF.
Obaseki was quoted as saying this while on inspection of re-modelling work at the Government Science and Technical College (GSTC) in Benin, formerly known as Benin Technical College,
Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Benin.
It quoted the governor as saying he would inspect the school’s sports facilities to put some of them to use during the festival.
“We are hosting the NSF in 2020 and we need several venues for the events. So, we want to see if we can rebuild the swimming pool here (at the school), the tennis court and even the race tracks,’’ he had said.
Meanwhile, the National Council on Sports is holding a week-long extraordinary meeting in Benin.
The meeting is the first of its kind since Edo was given the hosting right for the 2020 NSF in December.
The meeting’s agenda included a review of the 19th NSF held in Abuja, and status of the beach volleyball sport as an event at the festival.
The zonal elimination rules for team sports, sports for the next festival and medical guidelines would also be discussed.
Other issues expected to be discussed include the proposed date for the 20th NSF and inspection of facilities.(NAN)
