Enyimba FC of Aba defender, Valentine Ozornwafor, says his invitation to the national team by Coach Gernot Rohr, is a dream come true.
Ozornwafor, who was Flying Eagles Vice-Captain at the just-concluded African Youth Champion (AYC), “Niger 2019”, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on a telephone on Tuesday in Lagos that he would prove his worth in the team.
NAN reports that Rohr handed Ozornwafor his first invitation as a possible replacement for the injured Torino FC of Italy defender Ola Aina.
Rohr also gave Denmark-based striker, Paul Onuachu a first invitation alongside other regulars who included Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, Henry Onyekuru among others.
The 19-year-old Ozornwafor was part of the Flying Eagles team that came fourth at the just-concluded AYC in Niger Republic.
He is included in the CAF Best XI for his sterling performance where his team only conceded two goals throughout the competition albeit the loss through penalties in the semi-finals and the third place matches.
Ozornwafor said that his invitation to the national team was a dream come true for him, but added that he would not just be in the team to make up the number.
“I can say that my invitation to the team is a dream come true and I will like to thank God for this opportunity to be part of the team.
“Secondly, if I say I expected the invitation, yes, because that is the dream of every player, we all expect greater things and move to greater heights; it is the expectation of every player.
“Every player in his right senses will not go into the team just to make up the number, I am going there to make a mark and I have set target for myself.
“Gradually, I am getting there; I believe with God and hard work and right senses, that will just be a beginning, a stepping stone, he said. (NAN)
