The League Management Company (LMC) have confirmed that there will be no Nigeria Professional Football League matches this weekend as well as on March 3.

This is so because of the Presidential/National Assembly elections on February 16th and Gubernatorial/State House of Assembly elections on March 3.

In a telephone chat with the Chief Operating Officer, LMC, Salihu Abubakar, said prior to the release of the fixtures, they had put into consideration the 2019 General Elections.

“Before we fixed the fixtures, we knew there were going to be elections and we took care of that. There will be no matches this weekend and in March 3 when they will have state governors and house of assembly elections,” he said,

Abubakar however noted that in between both dates, there would be more games in a bid to complete the season as scheduled.

“In between we will have some matches. We are not going off during the election period, just on the days of the elections we are not playing.

“It has been like that since we started the season because it is a short season and we have to conclude the season before the end of May and there is the Cup competition that will come up during the latter part of the season.

We have to rush everything. The clubs were told from the beginning and they know that. It is the little sacrifice we all have to do for football,” he concluded.

In a similar vein, the Media Officer of Kada City said his team will be training as usual but will have a work free day on Saturday.

“There will be training sessions from now till Friday but not on Saturday. We will resume on Monday to travel on Tuesday ahead of our game in Jos. There won’t be matches this weekend because of the elections. But action will resume next Wednesday which is 20th February,” he said.
