Gombe United were in a rich vein of form on Monday as the Ladan Bosso boys tore apart Nasarawa United in the Match Day 8 of the Nigeria Professional Football League.
At the Pantami stadium, Gombe United who had failed to score in their last four league games began a goal fest in the 9th minute of the game when Abdulazeez Yusuf brilliantly smashed his goal beyod the reach of Nasarawa’s goal keeper.
However, Nasarawa got on the goal sheet in the 19th minute through a penalty kick well taken by Anas Yusuf. Maurice Chigozie had tackled him from behind.
Just as the home team surged forward after restarting the game, Adamu Mohammed was pushed which led to collision with GK Galadima which was adjudged a penalty kick by the center referee.
Usman Musa stepped up and converted the spot kick his third for the season to make it 2-1.
Matters became worse for the away side as they shipped in the third goal in the 40th minute.
Adamu Mohammed connected with Yusuf Abdulazeez who superbly controlled the ball with his chest before smashing the roof of the net.
At the restart of the second half, Adamu was on the scoresheet again to make it 4-1 for Gombe United but got injured in the process and had to be substituted.
With Gombe in total control of the game, Nasarawa had to make use of the limited opportunities at goal and in the 77th minute, Sanusi Ibrahim pulled one back for the away side.
Two minutes after, Usman Musa completed the rout by smashing the roof of the net from the left to end the game 5-2.
In Uyo, Akwa United welcomed new boys Kada City with rain of goals.
The Rafael Everton’s boys who have been under pressure in recent times scored 4 goals against the Kaduna based club.
Mfon Udoh opened scoring in the 6th minute with Ndifreke Effiong scored a brace to stamp their authority on Kada City. Wisdom Fernando was also on the scoresheet as well.
In Ogun State, Sunshine Stars shone brilliantly over Katsina United with a 2-0 victory.
Dayo Ojo broke the deadlock with a stunning strike in the 66th minute while Fuad Ekelojuoti doubled the lead for the home side right at the death of stoppage time with a tap-in from close range.
Following these results, Sunshine Stars have climbed to the second spot on Group A with 11 points while Katsina remain in the 4th position despite the defeat.
Akwa United despite the victory are in the 4th position on Group B while Kada City are battling with relegation. Also, Nasarawa United and Gombe United are occupying the 9th and 10th position respectively.
