U-20 AFCON: South Africa delay Flying Eagles qualification

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria quest to secure a World Cup ticket has been delayed after playing out a goalless draw with South Africa at the ongoing U-20 Africa Nations Cup.

The Nigeria team won their first game 2-0 against Burundi on Saturday.

In their bid to clinch the World Cup ticket early, the Paul Aigbogun boys had the first chance at goal which Nazifi Yahaya spurned in the 5th minute at the Stade General Seyni Kountche in Niger.

As the game wore on, more chances fell on the Nigerians who failed to take them as they dominated the South Africans.

The second half began in the same way the first half ended with the 7 times champions dictating the game but goalkeeper of the Amajita thwarted all efforts.

The South Africans have been able to earn to one more point and have increased the tempo of the group in securing the World Cup ticket.

Nigeria will require a draw against host Niger in the last game while South Africa will need to defeat Burundi to ensure qualification.
