Akwa United’s hopes of securing their first win in the abridged Nigeria Professional Football League went up in smokes following a 2-0 defeat to Nasarawa United at the Lafia Township Stadium.
The Solid Miners as the home team are called came out of the blocks in early minutes of the Match Day 5 game but met stiff resistance from the visiting side.
As the game wore on, with both keepers being kept busy, Shammasu Mohammed finally broke the deadlock in the 54th minute. He poked home a short cross from Sanusi Ibrahim’s low cross to give Nasarawa the lead.
The home side, not satisfied with the one goal lead pushed harder for a second which failed until 91st minute when Daddy Morris sealed the victory for Nasarawa Utd to break the hearts of the away side.
In the second match of the day, Go Round FC came out tops in the battle against El-Kanemi Warriors.
The Rivers based club defeated their opponents from Maiduguri by a lone goal scored by Sodiq Ololade in the 58th minute.
There were lively moments during the game in Omoku following good interchange of passes being from both sides till the heavens opened up heavily.
Go Round, despite the victory are two points behind El-Kanemi who are on 9 points and are 3rd and 4th respectively in Group B.
Nasarawa United climbed up the table to 5th position on 6 points while Akwa United who are without a win so far are deeply rooted on the 12th position with 2 points in Group B
