Executive chairman of Bet9ja Nigeria National League, Nigeria’s second tier domestic football league, NNL, Chidi Offor Okenwa , has urged clubs to always carry their media officers along in all their activities, considering the significant position they occupy.
Offor spoke on Saturday during a meeting with participating clubs in the season ending Super Eight (8) playoff which starts Sunday T the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
Acknowledging the role of the sporting media in promoting the league and disseminating information, Offor, who is also a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, noted that the media plays a huge role in projecting the activities of the league particularly the players, coaches and the administrators.
“It is very important that the media are carried along by the clubs in all their activities. Even when you travel, the media, in this instance, the clubs media officers should be a part of the traveling contingent because of the key role they play by publicising the activities of the clubs and the league”, Offor, who is also chairman of Enugu State Football Association, said.
He added, “the media are major stakeholders in the football industry, they are very critical stakeholders and must be allowed to carry out those noble roles”.
“Every club must have a media department and must be encouraged to play their role as is done the World over”.
He charged clubs who have not appointed media Officers to do so in an effort to compliment the efforts of those who have ,and join the crusade to reposition the league.
As the Super Eight (8) kicks off Sunday (today), Offor urged the media officers to give the tournament the positive publicity it deserves.
