Plateau United FC of Jos Captain, Elisha Golbe has disagreed with Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr that players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) are not good enough to play for the national team.
“I disagree with Gernot Rohr that NPFL players are not good for the Super Eagles. For every player in Europe is an opportunity as we can’t compare their league with ours,” he said.
He further reiterated that the Rohr may have be choosing the wrong players for the Super Eagles.
“Most of them in Europe started from the Nigerian league. Any one picked from the NPFL will represent the league well in the Super Eagles. The problem is that the right people are not chosen.
“We have everything that it takes to represent this country. We have quality players who when given the opportunity do well in Europe,” he said.
It will be recalled that Rohr in November while speaking to reporters prior to the Nations Cup qualifier against Seychelles had explained why he is not keen to invite players from the NPFL to his Super Eagles squad.
“There is a problem with the organization of the championship. I have told you that I cannot take the local players who are not playing and can’t show that they are better than the players playing in Europe.
“I want to see a good championship, a good league and then I have my assistants here who can always pick out the best.
“Most of the players playing for the Super Eagles are playing regularly in their championships in Belgium, in Germany and in France. They are playing at a high level over there,” he said
