We are prepared to host 2018 National Sports Festival – Dalung, Bello

The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung revealed that all is set for the Federal Capital Territory to host the 19th National Sports Festival.

In a joint world press conference between the ministries of Sports and FCT, Dalung said it is a huge achievement considering the time the federal government decided to take up the organisation of this all important sports fiesta.

“We have produced medals for the games; produced doping control information and education materials for athletes, coaches, technical and accompanying officials; distributed the festival general rules and regulations to all stakeholders” he revealed.

According to him the welfare of the athletes was of high priority during and after the sports festival, thus medical equipment were already put in place.

“We have also commenced the allocation of bed spaces in the Games Villages as well as rehearsal for the opening ceremony also we have established poly clinics at all the Games Villages, while reputable medical institutions have been contacted to serve as referral Hospitals, all competitions venue will be medically covered during the games”

The sports festival will see a total number of 8,861 delegates which comprises of 7227 athletes, 710 coaches, 322 other team officials, 602 state delegates, as Ebonyi state failed to participate during the delegation registration Meeting (DMR).

All Participating states are expected to storm Abuja today ahead of the opening ceremony tomorrow at the Main Bowl Package A National Stadium Abuja.

Meanwhile, in his own remarks, the FCT minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello said the FCT rose to the occasion to host the festival was a patriotic intervention to breathe life into the event.

He further spoke on the preparedness of the FCT administration and contingent to the Festival.

“We believe that sports is a formidable instrument for tourism, investment promotion and economic development, our current investment in infrastructure, rail transportation and public utilities are geared towards making the city attractive for these purposes and as we are fully ready to host the rest of the 36 states of the country in Abuja.

“Beyond our role as anchor to the LOC, FCT would be rolling out 470 athletes and officials who would be competing in over 27 events,” he said.

The 19th edition of the national sports festival tagged “ABUJA 2018, “World Series Edition” is expected to see 40 sporting events which will commence from December 6th to 16th at the Abuja National Stadium.
