Designated Nigerian Professional Football League winners, Lobi Stars have begun their CAF Champions League campaign with a 1-0 loss to Cameroon’s USM De Lourn at the Stade Millitaire De Ben Akanoun in Yaounde.
The Cameroonians on the basis of being at home were in full control of the game, dominating the play while initiating attacks from the middle of the park.
The Lobi Stars defence who faced a determined attack who threw in all they had in their arsenal in search of the opener grew into the game which was full of suspense and display of good football to the delight of scanty fans at the 1000 sitting capacity stadium.
The home team’s quick transition from the backline to attack nearly resulted in the opening goal but for Lobi’s John Lawrence who put up a brilliant save to deny Cameroon a goal, however, the Ortom Boys equally had their fair share of the game but failed to maximally utilise them.
As the first half wore on, the hosts piled up more pressure on the Nigerians as they literally camped in their opponents half.
The second half resumed in a similar style as USM’s Namedji Willy became a thorn in the flesh of the wing backs of Lobi Stars, Solomon Kwabe and Ebube Duru.
In the 64th minute, USM broke the deadlock with a solo effort from Jean Adadan which prompted Lobi Stars to increase the tempo in search of the equaliser by introducing Austin Ogunye for Sikiru Alimi and Lively Itodo for David Tiyakase in a bid to rescue the result which failed to come.
Lobi Stars will seek to get back to winning ways when the return leg is played on Wednesday, December 5 at the Aper Aku Stadium.
