FIBA World Cup: Defending champions, USA end Nigeria’s magical run

The United States of America (USA) have ended Nigeria’s hopes of making it into the semi-finals of the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup following a 40-71 loss this afternoon.

D’Tigress had been in an impressive form coming into the game against USA on the back of three consecutive wins.

In a similar fashion shown in the previous games, D’Tigress took the first quarter 17-9 taking the Americans by shock who lost their first quarter of the competition.

However, the Americans showed what they are made off and came back in the second quarter as they regained the lead 18-6 to lead 27-23 going into the half time break.

Not to give in easily, D’Tigress tried to change the narrative in the third quarter but could not contain the intensity displayed by their opponents to fall by seven points as the USA took a massive eleven points into the final quarter.

With all hopes lost of a staging a comeback, D’Tigress succumbed to the USA in the fourth quarter as they lost 5-25 with the game to finish at 71-40.

Following this defeat, the D’Tigress will play against France tomorrow for a 5th place position while the USA advance to the semifinals of the competition where they will take on the winners of the other quarterfinal between France and Belgium
