Youth Olympics: Sports ministry charge athletes to compete fair and clean

The Ministry of Youth And Sports Development have urged the Nigerian contingent to this year’s Youth Olympics Games to compete fair and clean.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Olushade Adeshola gave the charge at the athletics camp base in Abuja on Wednesday.

“The ministry stand have remained constant, our command is for them to go and compete clean, do the nation proud “.

Adeshola further expressed satisfaction with the sports ministry’s grassroots developmental programmes which are geared towards the growth of the young athletes into elite athletes.

“I am happy with the ministry plan in ensuring that there are constant programmes for our young athletes, we just returned from Kwara state. There are plans for them to be nurtured into elite sports “. Adeshola added.

Meanwhile, the captain of Team Nigeria, Ineh Emmanuel thanked the ministry for their support and declared the team’s desire to do the nation proud.

Nigeria will be competing in eight sports which are  Golf, Wrestling, Badminton, Canoeing, athletics, Weight lifting and Swimming

The Nigeria representatives will depart Nigeria at the Youth Olympics to be hosted in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Games run from 6th to 10th of October, 2018
