The President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVF) Engr Musa Nimrod has asked Nigerians to forgive him for failing to lead the country to victory at the just concluded U21 Boys Africa Volleyball Championship in Abuja.
Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Congo in their last match was not enough to secure one of the two tickets to play at the FIVB U21 World Cup scheduled for next year following two losses to Rwanda and eventual winners, Tunisia.
The Enishanma Elam led team finished in 5th position behind Tunisia, who defeated defending champions Egypt 3-1 on Wednesday evening, while Morocco and Rwanda came third and fourth respectively
In a chat with reporters, Nimrod acknowledged the enormous talents in the sports as they are bound to make Nigeria proud over the years.
“We are sorry to Nigerians for not getting to the final even though we hosted the tournament, I apologized because the team is growing” when we came back from Algeria I said it we have products because some clubs in Tunisia has already shown interest to sign some of our players. Again one of our U21 boys will be going to Turkey for tries “ he opined.
“Next we are going to Tunisia for the U19 World Cup because we have qualified, the developmental programs for volleyball will start with the national league in November and the players will be fully engaged. Some of them will be going for the national sports festival qualifying games and the sport festival proper.”
He further added that private sector should come to the aid of volleyball development in Nigeria as the nation seeks to regain her lost glory in the sparking game.
“Like the sports minister has said we need private sector to support sports general in Nigeria and our doors are wildly open to received them” he concluded
