The first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup Quarter Finals between Enyimba of Nigeria and Rayon Sports of Rwanda ended a goalless draw on Sunday.
The Aba Warriors who are Nigeria’s sole representative in the competition drew blanks and failed to score a vital away goal in Kigali.
It was a positive result for the home side despite the fact the Rwandans had fashioned out clear cut chances to breach the Nigerian defence but for their weak shots on goal.
Theophilus Afelokhai, who continues to bench Super Eagles star Ikechukwu Ezenwa, was outstanding for ‘The People’s Elephant’.
The 2003 and 2004 African champions similarly had their game worked out for them as their hosts were resolute in defence but managed to hold on for a vital away draw
This draw could be an important result as long as they maintain a clean sheet or get a straight win at home in the second leg at home.
It will be recalled that Enyimba beat CARA Brazzaville of Congo 1-0 in their final group to qualify for the knockout stage while their opponents finished as Runners up
Enyimba will be welcoming the Rwandans to the Aba Stadium next week Sunday for the second leg.
