The Super Eagles of Nigeria have shown they are miles ahead of the Pirates of Seychelles following a dominant 3-0 victory in the qualifying tournament for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Eagles who bounced back after losing their opening game 2-0 to South Africa last year with goals from Ahmed Musa, Chidozie Awaziem and Odion Ighalo at Stade Linite on Saturday.
Seychelles at the early stages of the match frustrated their opponents with a water tight defence but fans favourite, Ahmed Musa broke the deadlock after a quarter of an hour when his powerful shot from outside the box came off the crossbar before it came off the diving goalkeeper.
Chidozie Awaziem doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 34th minute, when he put away a rebound from Kelechi Iheanacho’s free kick that had come off the post.
Odion Ighalo was unlucky not to make it 3-0 two minutes later when his chip over the Seychelles goalkeeper bounced on the crossbar and into touch.
However, the China-based striker made up for that in the 57th minute from the penalty spot after the impressive debutant Samuel Kalu was felled inside the box on his way to goal.
The home team’s best chance to get on the scoreboard was in the 62nd minute, when onrushing Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was lobbed, but the effort missed the mark.
