2018 World Cup sensation, Kylian Mbappe has declared that he has no regrets after receiving a straight red card in Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 victory over at Nimes on Saturday and said he’d “do the same thing” if put in a similar situation.
Mbappe scored one goal and assisted another but also picked up his first career red card — a straight red after clashing with Teji Savanier late on, despite having a yellow card from earlier in the match — after angrily reacting to an ugly challenge from behind with the game already decided.
However, the France international said he was sticking up for himself and would do it again if needed.
“No, no, no,” said Mbappe in the mixed zone after the win. “If I had the chance to do it over again, I would do the same thing.
“I will apologise to the supporters and everybody, but I cannot tolerate this sort of thing.
“It was an accumulation of things. It was the last action. I do not think that it has a place on the pitch but that does not matter. The referee made a decision and like I said, PSG are above that — we are above that.”
Neymar and Angel Di Maria gave PSG a lead on the day but it was left to Mbappe and Edinson Cavani to secure all three points after Antonin Bobichon and Savanier had looked like rescuing a point at 2-2.
