The Bureau of the FIFA Council have given the Nigeria Football Federation a final deadline to resolve the leadership crisis or face suspension following the ‘undue influence in the affairs in the NFF’.
In a letter obtained by The SportsBay, FIFA stated that in line with its statutes if the NFF offices are not handed back to the legitimate NFF executive committee under Amaju Pinnick by Monday 20 August, 2018, the NFF will be suspended with immediate effect for contravening its articles.
According to the statement, the suspension would only be lifted once Amaju and the General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi are returned and given effective control of the NFF.
However, FIFA bureau also decided that if the suspension comes into effect and the Falconets still competing in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France will still be allowed to continue to participate in the tournament on an exceptional basis given that the tournament is underway.
It will be recalled the NFF has been devilled with leadership crisis between Amaju Pinnick and Chris Giwa in the last four years after two separate elections produced both men as the President of the Nigeria Football Federation.
It will be recalled that over the last few weeks after the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup in Russia, the Giwa –led board took control of the federation under the orders of a court judgement.
His reign was short-lived as the agents of the State Security Services (DSS) evicted his board from office.
